What I Learned from Joe Dispenza’s Book as a Hypnotherapist on a Spiritual Journey
There are books that you read and move on from — and then there are books that shift something deep inside of you.
For me, Breaking the Habit of Being Yourself by Dr. Joe Dispenza was one of those soul-shifting reads.
As a hypnotherapist and someone committed to my personal and spiritual growth, I approached this book with curiosity. But what I found inside was far more than theory — it was a mirror, a guide, and a powerful affirmation of everything I’ve come to believe through my work with the subconscious mind.
Science Meets the Soul
One of the most validating aspects of this book was how beautifully it blends neuroscience, quantum physics, and ancient wisdom. Dispenza explains how our thoughts become our reality — a concept that is the foundation of both hypnosis and spiritual awakening.
His message is clear:
“To change your personal reality, you must change your personality.”
This aligns perfectly with what I witness in my sessions every day — that transformation begins within. Our subconscious beliefs, emotional patterns, and thought loops shape our external lives. But we are not prisoners of them.
We can change.
How It Helped Me As a Hypnotherapist
Reading this book deepened my understanding of why hypnotherapy works on such a profound level.
Dr. Dispenza describes how our bodies become addicted to emotional states like guilt, shame, or fear, and how we must become conscious of these patterns to break free from them.
This mirrors what happens in hypnosis:
- We bypass the critical conscious mind
- Access the subconscious
- And rewrite the outdated programs that are running our lives
His meditations and visualisations reminded me of the hypnotic state — that quiet, focused awareness where true transformation happens.
The book also gave me new language to explain this process to my clients. Especially those who are more science-driven or analytical. It bridges the gap between mind and soul, between logic and magic.
As a Soul Awakening…
On a personal level, Breaking the Habit of Being Yourself reminded me of the power I hold as a creator of my own reality. Like many on the awakening path, I’ve faced moments of deep self-reflection, ego death, and emotional release. This book offered me a structure to move through those phases with more awareness and empowerment.
I realised how often I was still emotionally connected to past versions of myself.
The book gently nudged me to let go — not only mentally but energetically.
To choose elevated emotions.
To practice being the future version of myself now.
To meditate with intention, not just as a spiritual ritual, but as a quantum act of becoming.
What I Now Bring Into My Work and Life
Since reading the book, I’ve infused my sessions and my own life with deeper clarity.
- I guide my clients not just to uncover limiting beliefs, but to shift into a new identity energetically
- I speak more often about elevated emotions and how they magnetise new realities
- I’ve created meditations inspired by this work, helping others rewire their inner world
But most importantly, I’ve remembered:
🌟 I am not my past.
🌟 I am not my old emotions.
🌟 I am not even my name or identity.
I am consciousness — energy — intention.
And so are you.
